The concept of washable signs started when the question of "is it possible to design cleanliness?" came about. Hospital cleanliness always indicates their services, and they believed "Cleanliness is the best service that a hospital can provide". (Umeda Hospital, works, 2020)

The cleanliness of hospital could reflect on how a patient perception of the hospital. Therefore, a clean and caring environment changes people’s thoughts and opinions on hospitals. This proof that examining and evaluating the problems with current hospital signs as well taking into consideration people’s thoughts, views and opinions is important to ensure the customers comfort. The simple design is less intimidating, which in return make the environment less tense for it's user, while still conveying relevant information. This piece of responsible design combined both the concept of simplicity and necessity to create a new experience for hospital users.
