As the genre of my photo novel is “Horror”, I look at a few of my favourite manga series to help me figure out how they layout of the manga create tension and suspense. The manga I look at is Junji ito’s work & also Shūzō Oshimi work.

From the manga, I realised one of the ways it creates suspense is by putting the scary frames on the next page. That way, it keeps the reader engage and curious on what is about to happen next, and when they did the reveal of something scary give the reader a fright.

It is arranged in a way that the scary scenes would take up most of the spaces, so when audience flip the page they are faced with the disturbing imagery.

Similar methods are seen used by Shūzō Oshimi work.
