From the previous weeks, we have been introduced to the history and background of the photonovel medium. From there, I learned that photonovel is a medium that might not be popular now. However, it's influence have definietely been seen in today's society. As example, Hermes has been seen using similar style of photonovel in their campaign photo, while photos with caption seem to capture the tactic photonovel uses to tells a story. Just by using pictures it is able to convey a story across towards it's reader effectively. Therefore, photonovel is seen as a medium for storytelling bigger issues in society.
My photonovel
Therefore, when brainstorming for my projects, I am searching for someone that have behaviours or characteristics that don't conform to the norm. That’s when I start to observe the people in my surrounding and try to find something contrasting within the society or themselves. From my observation, I spot 2 people around me with a contrast. First, a Chinese who doesn’t know how to speak & write Mandarin. Second, a person who hate the horror genre but love the aesthetic of gore.
After much consideration, I decided to interview my friend who hate horror but love aesthetic of gore because I am more interested in the contrast and reasoning behind it. Therefore, I create a series of questions to ask during the interview hoping that I could get a better insight on her thoughts.

The transcript from the interview
Conclusion from the interview (INSIGHTS)
From the interview, she told me that the reason why she is scared of the horror genre “gore” is because of their scary visual such as scary looking masks and with the combination of sound effects, lighting etc. make her feel very anxious and uncomfortable.
However, she explains that the aesthetic of gore is different because it is part of the plot and the gory scenes make the whole story more thrilling and exciting. Besides, she believed that the aesthetic of gore could be used as a way of self-expression.
Although both horror and aesthetic share the similarities of “Gore”, but due to the way it is presented to the audience we have different perspective and view point of it. Therefore, from the interview I understand that the “context of gore” is presented differently which lead to different view points of a similar topic.
