For today class we learned about Urban Sketching, if we break the words down it actually means Urban(city) and sketch(drawing) , so it means sketching city, landscape or scenery of a place spontaneously. This type of sketching could tell a story or culture of certain places. Besides, when sketching we are not supposed to just draw what we saw, but to get to feel and know the place to make it your own. Sketching is really important because it would preserved the memory of the place, which pictures can't. Moreover, it could also improve your observations skills becuase urban drawing requires you to focus and observes the little details around you. All in all, in the end the experience are more important than the results.
Since I am quite new to urban sketching, I did a research on different artist that did urban sketching. One of the artist that have written a book about urban sketching is Gabriel Campanario. Firstly, I feel inspired by looking at his work because I feel like I could feel and visualize his experience through the sketch.

Secondly, he like to write down the details about the sketch, which make me have a clearer understanding on the people and location he had sketch.
All in all, his sketches uses variety of methods to tell a story through his sketch. For example, watercolours, pen, ink and many more. His work is only mainly focus on daily life of people in the city.
Class Activity
We start of with trying Blind contour, which means drawing something without looking at the paper. We took turns drawing each other.

Blind contour of Sally!!
We also tried drawing at a plastic, so it is kinda like tracing on their face.

After the class activity we did another activity! We were required to walk around the campus to sketch.
