This week, we have our screen printing workshop at Block Z, so before the class we were asked to prepare all the materials that we need. Some of the materials are silkscreen, squeegee, acrylic paint and many more.
During the workshop, we were shown several different ways to do screen printing.
1. Exposure
The first way is to expose the screen under the light. This could be done with the use of the photo emulsion and sensitizer. First we were to mix both of the soloutions together (TIPS!!! Mixed 10 part of the photo emulsion to 1 part of the sansitizer) . After that, we were to pour it to the screen using the metal. Make sure that the soloution is not to thick, if not the time for exposure need to be longer. After waiting for the solution to dry, it is time for us to put it in the light exposing machine. After exposing make sure to wash it of IMMEDIATELY. Lastly, the most important thing is to make sure you have to do the process without any light.
2. Block out method
I have previously try out this method before. It is basically the manual version of the exposure method, instead of exposing it in the machine we have to appy a blocker and later apply a layer to black out the paint.
If you are interested to know the process for this method, you can check my post out:
3. Stencil method
This method does not involve permanently blocking out your screen. It is basically cutting or blocking out places that does not want the paint to go through. I have also previously experiment with this method. I personally think, this method required us to stick the paper on the table to prevent it to move while doing the screen printing.
Map
This assignment required us to use different methods of screenprinting to create a map. This group project required us to create a map of our research zone using different shape, texture patterns to describe it. The size of the map should be A3, and it should not include any hand drawn or hand written stuff.
