🌸Screen Printing Experience (WEEK8)

Writer's picture: TengTeng

This week, me and my group members (Jing and Natalie) meet up on Monday to discuss on our idea and planning for our map. We discuss on the icons we want to put and the base of the map. The research zone we are doing are Klang, Brickfield and SS15. From the research we have done we think of a few icons which is related to the place. Later that day, we individually did our own icons at home, so that we could finish the assignment as soon as possible.

Here is the icons that I come up with, that is related to Klang. I did this in Black and White is because the exposure machine could only work if the images is black.

This is based on the research I did in another class, which is related to stray dogs in Klang. If you don't already know Klang has the most number of stray dogs, so for my research I did an observation on posture, position and the daily life of stray dogs. Here is some of the sketches and observations I did.

In the class, we discuss further on the based of the map and added another few more icons we think that will look nice in the map.

For the based, we decided to use SS15 map instead of a combination of all because this is less complicated, and we feel like SS15 is a place where all of us study so there are some connections.

This is the map we used for refference, we zoom in to a certain area to draw the map.

After we confirm the design, we went to a shop to buy extra silkscreen and trnasparent film for the printing.

After printing we went to exposed the screen, since all of us have decided to share the photo emulsion and sandidizer, we do not have to make the mixture again. The first silk screen turns out great, the second silk screen not really. We figured out that this is because of the silkscreen quality because it gets wrinkly after we put the solution. Nevertheless, we finish the process of exposing the screen.

After exposing the screen, we dried it and continue the screen printing on the next day.

On the next day, we stay back after class to do our screen printing and here is my outcome.
