This week, is our final week before our presentation, Everyone is rushing to finish up their project in time for next week presentation. I have started creating my characters, and here is some of my process in creating the characters.

Little India, Klang character

Last week, I have sent my characters to be printed onto fabric so that i could make the bags.

During the printing process, something happen the printer have some problem that cause the ink to be smudge. This causes us to wait about another 15 to 20mins since they are require to wash the machine before re-printing. The second time turns out better.

I am really scared and excited to see how the printing turns out because this is my first time using a fabric printer.

Along the process, I met a college mate who is taking the fashion design course. She advise me not to do it on colico because the colours printed out would not be vibrant. This is because cotton could not absorbed the ink as good as polyester, so we are recommended to use this material!!! (we learned new things everyday guys!!)

After printing, I have to start assemble all the pieces together. The first pouch didnt turn out well, because I forgot to leave extra seam allowance for sewing.... The second time I did it on colico to see how the sewing will turn out. It turn out fine, but the zip have some problem since I sew it to near to the zipper.....oopps! My friend Azizah told me to cut of a few thread that is really near the zipper to make zipper smooth and it WORKS!!

After I have confident on making pouches, I started assembly my main pieces, along the way I face some challenges. First, I sew it the opposite side and have to cut the thread to sew again. Second, I sew the other side wrongly and have to redo everything. Third, since I am not a fashion student I obviously doesn't have alot of sewing materials, so I have to improvised some, instead of using pins to hold the cloth I use paper clips to hold it. Lastly, I hurt my thumb in the process of sewing lol. In the end, all the pouches turns out exactly as I have vision!!!!

This is a long and hectic process, but I did learn a lot of things from this process. I learned more on the type of cloth, how to sew, and sewing REALLY takes a lot of patient and accuracy, since the measurement really matters!!!

Taman Eng Ann, Tuition centres character

For this character I am planning to do linoprinting for the details. Since my character have a memo pad as a face I wanted to linoprint the faces on to each memopads. First, I carved out the design that I wanted to linoprint.

After carving, I went to the workshop at Block Z to carry out my linoprinting since the ink is really messy to handle and the worshop have all the materials I need for linoprinting.

The linoprinting process is good since not alot of the memopads is smudge with paint and it come out neat!! This is really tiring process since I have to linoprint all the memopad!!! I experiemnted with 2 colours, since at first I wanted to linoprint black onto the memopad but I realised that it may be too dark since the fuction of the memopad is to write memo, so i changed the colours to yellow for stamping.

Carving my lino for my character!!

Cutiess in Yellow!!

Drying process!!!

I might have took up all the spaces for drying lolololll
