🌸Creating my characters pt 2 (WEEK 13)

Writer's picture: TengTeng

Taman Eng Ann, Morning market

For this character, I planned to make it as a drawstring bag to keep recycle bag. Since, I noticed majority of the people are carrying plastic bag.

The material I wanted to use is something similar to the material of the canopy seen in the market, so it is waterproof. I can't really find the cloth that is similar to this material, so I found an alternative way to get it. I used an old waterproof jacket for the my character body to mimic the canopy.

I start with making the tote bag. On the inside of the character is a tote bag, so it actually function as a mini pouch to keep a bag. I sew the ecanvas bag using colico. It is my first time sewing a bag, so I refer to a video on youtube before I start. The video is easy for me to understasnd, so I managed to sew the bag with no mistakes!!

After that, I start to sew the string bag. I also watch videos on how to sew a drawstring bag, but since the video tutorial is on how to sew a rectangular shape drawstring bag so I have to improvised a few parts of the video for it to suit my design. I did a mock up first to see the size and length that I wanted.

Mock up!!

Klang Railway Station, Klang

Since I have said before I want my character to be some sort of squishy, so I went to Youtube to find videos which would help me to come up with the plush toy. I found a video on how to make the base of the plush toy by using socks. I am intereted in this idea so I decide to try it out.

First try!

I am surprised that this is quite easy to do. I did the base and add in extra details such as the strings and eyes to complete the squishy!
