During the raya break, I continue on designing and creating my characters. Here is my progress on the characters.

Klang Railway Station

Two of my main focus on the area is Busy and Old, so I decided to make a mindmap to see where it leads. From the mindmap, I realised that the definition of busy could be people that are constantly on the move, so I develop my idea starting from here.

mindmap and concept

Some of the sketches I came up with

I came up with the idea of making the character in a round shape because I feel like round shape objects are constantly moving when there is a force pushing or kicking it, which relates back to working adults because the force that pushes the people to work far away from their home could be the salary, company benefits and many more.

Secondly, I decided to use a hard and more texture object for the surface because one of the personality of the character is conservative (people that doesn't like changes/ unflexible). My first choice is to use the material such as coffee sack to make the character, but I can't find those type of materials so I end up using strings to mimic the material of the coffee sack.

Here is my attempt on making the character using old/ unused cloth

This is how it looks like after being wrap with the strings. I think I would stick with using the strings because it give out those old basket vibes. Besides, I also found out that if u squeeze it you can see the inside cloth colour, so maybe I am gonna use red for the inside so when you squeeze it you can see the colour red, which represent the feeling of angry and impatient. Moreover, since this character is a working adult character I thought of using soft objects for the inside so it would work like a stress ball.

A few extra accessories I would like to add to my characters

Little India, Klang

This character is inspired by the signboards I saw during my research at this area. I am attracted to the singboard because it seems really align with different colours. Besides, almost every store have one signboard.

From my idea, I develop a character. The character I am going for is a little bit different compared to my old one. I have decided that this character will have different faces/emotions. This is because this place is very colourful, and I beleive that different colours could convey different emotions. Thus, I feel like this character would have a very honest personality if the the character is angry it would change colour to red ( just an example) .

concept, sketches and idea

Besides, since this place is full of Indian culture, it is only right if I add in some india inspired design. From my research, I realised many shops are selling accessories, and inside those shops they are selling a type of bag called the jholas bag, so I thought of making this character a bag/ or accessory piece.

Character design process

Moreover, I believed that embroidery have been a big part of the indiam culture so I thought of including it for my character. From my research, I found out there are several types of embroidery in the indian culture. This is what I found out:

Experimenting using felt.

Trying embroidery for the first time!!!
